Holiday camps

Hungary can offer riding holidays for children too. Most of the riding schools organise one-week or ten-days-long riding camps for beginners and advanced riders during all the school holidays. In these camps children can stay near the horses all day long, they can get acquainted with them, learn the secrets of horse-breeding, grooming of the horses and riding.

Novice and advanced riders are usually taught by well-trained instructors in two separate groups: beginners can ride the horses on a lunge or lead rein, and more advanced children may ride alone in school. During one holiday period the most child who an absolut beginner can reach a level where he or she can try to ride on his or her own. At the end of the camps children can take exams in theory and practice.

The more advanced riders can practice their knowledge on longer trekking journeys when they move from one place to another every day or go to different places and spend every night at the same place. The calm trekking horses and the trips to the beautiful Hungarian scenery give unforgettable experience for every child.

At several places in Hungary riding and archery camps are also organised. Here children can get acquainted not only with riding, but also with the old Hungarian traditions and customs.

 

Training throughout the year

Many of the riding schools welcome their young visitors with ponies throughout the year. At the beginning children only get acquainted with the horse, many times they start without a saddle, on a lunging girth or lead rein. By practising the equestrian sport on a basic level they gain more and more confidence which makes further training easier.

When schooling, just as when older novice children are on a lead rein, experienced and well-trained Hungarian half-breds are used most frequently and most reliably. Most of these school horses are not too tall but they are very calm so that students can also learn how to direct a horse.

Children with a long practice in hobby riding are welcome in many riding schools for riding on rein, in school or cross-country all over Hungary.

For those who are more experienced and like sports riding, there are training and further training possibilities available at show-jumping and dressage coaches who have advanced-degree training diplomas and experienced sports horses.
