Injured, sick and disabled people are welcome for riding at more and more places in Hungary. Equestrian therapy is a medical method that has been proved with practical results to be curing, developing and educating, which method takes advantage of the psychological and physiological effect of riding to improve the condition of our disabled and injured fellow-men. Equestrian therapy can be divided into three main areas: |
Hippo-therapy: in which the horse acts as a living “therapeutical equipment” during the therapy that is based on neuropathological regularities. In this therapy the movement characteristics of the horse - which is very close to that of the humans - is used: the action of the three-dimensional kinetic stimuli. Physiotherapeutical rides and equestrian gymnastics: in which the co-operation between horse and human, human and human results in psychological and social values that can be exploited to develop the individual. |

Sports riding for the disabled: in which a certain type of riding is used - suited for the physical and mental abilities of those displaying the activity - so that they can spend their free time actively, and also to help their social integration. The equestrian experts’ task is to guarantee safety by choosing and training the horses, and to follow the doctor’s or therapist’s instructions when they work with the patients who seek recovery. Horses with suitable genetic abilities can meet the high standards of equestrian therapy after a training of one or one and a half years. The Hungarian Equestrian Therapeutic Association, founded in 1997, is pleased to give further information for the inquirers (accessibility is on the address list). |
